I usually go during the night. The night staff is awesome, very amicable! I recently started going during the day and I must say I have no plans on doing that anymore. It was at least 75 (deg F) inside, everyone was dripping sweat... I decided to continue my workout outside (90 deg F) because at least there was a breeze.
I went here for years and I enjoyed it most of the time. It's super cheap, and they have good equipment for the price. You don't get a lot of amenities, but again, you're not going to any other gym for even close to their membership rate. Staff is friendly and it was always clean inside.
Spoke with a manager that said that the policy exists even though it is not posted anywhere and definitely is not on the contract and is loosely enforced. In other words they can pick and choose whoever they decide who they want to impose this invasive policy on when they see fit. Otherwise this policy would be explained in detail in person as well as in the contract. After all they took up half a page in the contract about the tanning booth, they could have put in an extra few lines to explain their guest policy. Once again for a company that claims to be inclusive and without any intimidation, not clarifying this policy is exactly that when after 7 months someone decides to enforce it.
"Told me that they had to create a "profile" for a guest." I had decided to take my wife to this location, my "home" location, although I have a Black Card membership. I had been coming to this facility for close to 7 months off and on and have brought a guest (my son) with me with no questions asked until today (9/9/17). This day when I beeped in I was greeted by Austin (crooked cop wannabe) who stopped my guest. His demeanor was unfriendly and very apprehensive as he began to question me and my guest. I understand the policy that adult guests are supposed to present ID. And I also accept the idea (which is in the contract) that my guest must sign a registry. But at no time under any circumstances was I ever informed that my guest had to be "profiled". The way he was treating us was very humiliating and uncomfortable. When I asked him to show me where in my contract did it say that the guest that I bring there had to have some kind of "profile" created he could not, because there is nothing there that said that they would. He then asks me for ID. I told him that he has my ID when I clicked in that shows MY profile with a picture. So me and my wife (guest) proceeded to go and work out. About 5 minutes later, Austin then approaches me with another person who said her name was Megan, on a treadmill to show me the contract where he once again in a condescending manner says "this is your contract, this is you right? Anyway it says here that a guest must present ID". I told him that there was no problem with showing ID but nowhere does it say that they needed to create a "profile" on any guest that I brought there. He kept talking, and I asked to speak to a manger, in which they promptly told me that there was no manager there. At that point I was so distraught that me and my wife just left. I felt so humiliated. I told him that I had no problems before that and no one questioned me and absolutely did not suggest that they had to "profile" my guest. His only answer was that he was just doing his job and that the others who did not question me were not doing their job. This is why I say that he must be a butthole cop wannabe.
The employees judge the most. Been going regularly for about 2 years now. The gym itself and equipment are new and nice. I'm very happy with cleanliness. I just don't want to be trolled by people that work there.
The gym is fine, just make sure you don’t put anything you want to keep in your locker. Never had anything stolen from locker at a planet fitness until I went here.
I will never visit this Planet Fitness again and when my year is up I will promptly discontinue my membership. Before we got to the place I was bragging, telling my wife how inclusive and how good the business model was to attract everyday people and how they really made feel like you belonged. That experience has really changed my mind. I'm sure other reviews tell the same kind of sentiment. So please, DON'T FREQUENT PLANET FITNESS, ESPECIALLY THE YPSILANTI BRANCH BECAUSE AT SOME POINT YOU WILL BE MET WITH THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT THEY CLAIM TO STAND FOR.
