So I would say if you ever find yourself in a position where you have to rent from University management you would want to do everything possible to protect yourself from fraud
Terrible maintenance and terrible management. I've lived in 3 different apartments due to slumlords. The first apartment had a caved in ceiling and everytime it rained it would leak horribly and the ceiling would cave in more. All maintenance would do is fix it my covering it with cardboard! This method would be used multiple times until I had enough and requested a new apartment. Second apartment even more frightening, constant floods, when it rained or snowed you would need be sure to wear shoes in the house because the carpet would get soaked. Oh and the back up their pipes would be so terrible! The pipes would be so disgusting that other tenants urine and feces would some through your tub! The following months a animal broke into my home stuck in a cabinet, it could have been anything, I have a three year old and the landlady uses mouse traps??? We don't what this thing is. It smelled horrible like a animal zoo. I've had to hold my rent back and delta with so much, I had to move again! This apartment also had flood problems! As for the interior, the hallways are always dirty, feces and urine, the washer and dryer is always broken, trash piled, bad insect control, I even witnessed notes in the hallway from other tentant begging for management to do some work! My advice is do not come here, you will regret it. I hate to see another tentant waste their time and money with this place!
My roommate just died and I had to break the lease because I could not afford to keep the apartment they gave me zero leeway and told me that I had to put up 3 months rent in advance even under the circumstances. So if I can't afford to pay the rent on my own how can I afford to pay 3 months? Fortunately something came through and I had the money to break the lease, so they told me I had to put the three months up front but then I will be getting one month back in my deposit as long as the walls were brought back to White and there was no big holes in it or anything I made sure those things were met.
Hardwood Floors improperly installed and slide out of place. Heat was always on great for the price but hot all the time. Windows leaked badly, and they didn't shut properly. BUGS EVERYWHERE! I was pretty clean and couldn't do much about that. Carpets very old and nasty, and the bathrooms looks like that of a jail cell. But hey when you want cheap you make it work.
I lived here for a year with 2 friends and although the price was great and affordable. If anything broke I was the one to fix it. Most of the contractors they bring in are just people who just live in the area who have tools and are handy. I wouldn't say they are professional contractors. The staff is fairly rude except for the African-American woman in the office. You'd be willing to rent just off of her kindness. But back to the apartment.
The unit I lived in was horrible. The whole house was slanted. I had to put blocks under most of my furniture to keep it level. Without blocks, my dresser would have tipped over. Maintenance is terrible. Even after filling out the appropriate paper work, it still took them almost two weeks to come out and look at any problems we had. I'm still waiting for them to fix my window that they looked at in July. The drive way is also awful. It is a gravel driveway filled with potholes. Last winter, they only plowed it once. My car got stuck multiple times because they did not keep up with it. I had to call AAA twice to get towed out of my own driveway. They filled the potholes this past summer, but the repairs only lasted maybe a week. They also only did half of the driveway rather than all of it. The people that lived in the unit before me broke all of the racks in the fridge along with one of the drawers. I called twice to have these items replaced and am still waiting. It has been over four months since I have called last. I can't wait for my lease to be up so I can move out. I will never rent with this company again, the experience has been absolutely awful.
You will be lured in by cheap rent, but there is a reason for that. Most of the housing conditions can be best described as "slums". Maintenance is very slow to respond to issues and typically inadequately addresses them. Water damage from window or foundation leaks is painted over or patched over with more plaster, and broken sliding doors are rigged with bars and wood in the frames to prevent sliding. When they need outside contractors, they do not hire from reputable businesses, nor pay their contractor enough to do a quality job in a reasonable time period. Emergency maintenance does not answer the phone, nor return your call in a timely manner. The windows that are put into the apartments are paper thin and improperly installed, which will allow the slightest breeze outside to blow your indoor window shades. Black mold has been found behind kitchen cabinets. Do not rent from here, you will regret it.
I really don't know whether the management company replaced the blinds and closet door or not but I do know they had absolutely no reason to and they have no reason to withhold my deposit
In fact I was just on my Facebook page looking at on of the pictures I took just before I left and one of the blinds and one of the sliding doors were in it and you can clearly see they were 100% intact and undamaged.
So just today I get a letter detailing why they have to take part of my deposit is to replace the blinds and the two sliding doors all of which were completely 100% intact and undamaged.
